Void Moths: Songs & Studies began as an experiment: what would a fictional academic essay look like? I wanted to wrestle with issues of institutional elitism; I wanted to write a love letter to speculative fiction; I wanted to foreground the impulses at the heart of research. I wrote this series before heading off to grad school, and I still consider it a genuine expression of scholastic engagement in the desire to know and make known.
